Today has been a whirlwind of a day. We had a wake-up call set for 5:30 this morning but I actually got mine at 5:00. Woke up hearing the ringer on my cell phone and I was wondering who in the world would be calling me at that hour. Come to find out it was my veterinarian calling about my cats. Otis had gotten something of a tummy ache and threw up while boarding and our vet wanted us to know. The thing is, it was 8:00 when they called, Alabama time. We were 3 hours behind. Well, I laid down even if it were only for 30 additional minutes.
We got going on a bus and headed for the White Pass & Yukon Railroad. We boarded and got to see all kinds of things. The mountains and trees are absolutely beautiful and yes, there is still some snow on the ground but it is in patches. It wasn’t long before we had together off the train at Fraser, B.C. where we had to go through customs. It took us extra long because Canadian customs had to take up 45 passports and customs forms, then take them inside to scan them. That seemed to take forever. We were all set to go until a gentleman behind us said he didn’t have his passport. We searched and looked for the missing passport. Our tour guide even went back to see if customs had it. Come to find out, the wife of the gentleman who didn’t have his passport was in possession of it. They weren’t sitting together for some strange reason. We all got a good laugh about that one. So far, we’ve been through American and Canadian customs 3 times in one weeks time. We’re spending 4 days in Canada this round. We’ve been to Carcross, B.C which is part of the Yukon. There are some vehicles that have two license plates, one for Canada and one for Alaska because the person driving the vehicle live and/or work on both places.
We finally arrived at Whitehorse, B.C. around 3:00 this afternoon. When we got to our room, Mr. Gossett made an interesting observation. Our bed had only 3 pillows on it where the bed in Skagway had 4 pillows. Hence, we now have a new rating system for hotels. A pillow count. We went downstairs to the eating establishment in the hotel to eat. At every opportunity, I used that pillow rating system. We had fish and chips for dinner. They were okay. The fries were a bit soggy. I thought that ordering a very berry cheesecake would be a no brainer. What was I thinking??? We both ordered the cheesecake, Mr. Gossett’s with ice cream, mine without. We we got our slices of cheesecake, they were frozen. So, we are in the “frozen tundra, eating frozen very berry cheesecake at a 4 pillow hotel.” There were moments where I even tried cutting the cheesecake with a knife and even that was a challenge. I don’t think we’ve laughed at our food as much as we did today. Yep, life is definitely an adventure and we seem to have a double portion of fun in the adventure.
There’s more to do tomorrow so I shall say good-night for now. I’m tired and ready for some much needed rest.
God Bless and Happy Travels!
Charlene
