It’s been a while since I last posted an entry here and I have to admit that I’ve been a crazy busy lady. For the last year and a half or more, I’ve been thrust into a position that I never expected to be in. I am the owner / operator of a small town AM radio station. Okay, the small town is the place I grew up and the radio station is the one I listened to as a little girl which makes the whole situation very unique – to say the least.
I have always loved the radio business. I worked at my hometown radio station in my 20’s but didn’t pursue it for whatever reason I had back then. Now that I’m older, I’m very pleased to be back at the station I have loved for all of my life. I have found that once you become part of this crazy industry, it pretty much becomes part of you. After I parted ways with the business in the early 1990’s, I had a couple regrets for leaving, wishing I had pursued it further. Kind of like when I regretted giving up a 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang Convertible because I wanted a car that had power steering. Once I realized I what I had given up in the vehicle department, I have been kicking myself ever since. I wasn’t quite at that point with the radio business but I was close.
I suppose the timing had to be just right for me to come back to the business I wanted to be part of in some form or fashion. The last thing I expected though was to be in a management position. I have never thought of my self as management material or even a leader type. I suppose there were people who believed in me when I did’t even believe in myself. To those folks, Thank You.
In the year and a half I’ve been in radio management, I have learned more than I could have ever learned while sitting in a classroom and I’ve sat in a lot of them over my lifetime. I hold an Associates Degree in Radio and Television, an Associates in Practical Theology and a Bachelor’s of General Studies with a concentration in Administration. I had a preview of what might happen but it was nothing in comparison to what I’ve learned on the job. I plan to go into further detail with all that I’ve experienced in future blog posts so, stay tuned. I’ll be filling in some of the gaps in the days and weeks ahead.
I am very grateful for all of the learning I’ve had even at my age which happens to be middle aged. I do not want to reveal my exact age right yet but I will reveal it soon enough. I’m very grateful for the learning experience no matter what my age is. I hope I don’t lose the desire and ability to learn.
Okay, I’ve rambled long enough here. I need to get to work. It’s pay day and I’ve got some employees that depend on me when it comes to supporting some of their habits like food, driving a decent vehicle, a home and the likes of that.
God Bless guys!
Chalene
