It’s Thursday and we’re on the down hill slide on our Alaskan adventure. We spent Wednesday in Dawson City which is in Canada and part of the Yukon which is part of where the gold rush took place in the 1800’s. And here’s to Dawson City, population 2,000 – SA – LUTE!!! Okay, the kid in me had to do that. Couldn’t resist taking a little Hee Haw out of my back pocket and play that crazy one eyed jack. Now, back to the topic at hand. Wednesday, June 7, 2017 was pretty much a sleep day for Mr. Gossett and myself. We had been traveling via bus for a couple days and were a bit on the worn out side. We did eat good in Dawson though. The Bison meatballs and spaghetti was pretty good along with the Canadian Beaver Tail desert. That was scrumptious. it was was similar to a pancake but made with a batter that made a denser piece of pastry than a pancake. Added to it was cinnamon, syrup and caramel with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. Oh. My. Goodness. I could do another one of those but now that we’re in Fairbanks, I must move on to bigger and better things. On our way from Whitehorse Falls to Dawson City, we did get to see a bear crossing the road. That was pretty cool. I like seeing animals in their natural habitat. Actually, I prefer it that way. Now, there’s nothing wrong with a zoo. They have their place and the majority of the animals are treated very well. I guess I’m just a sucker for a natural habitat. On our way from Dawson City to the airport to fly into Fairbanks, we were able to see some foxes along the side of the road. One appeared to be a young fox and they were beautiful.
We are spending one night here in Fairbanks so, we’er kind of taking it easy for our trip to Denali National Park. It’s a pretty lengthy trip from Fairbanks so, our preference is to be rested up for the trip. We will be spending three days in Denali and I’m really looking forward to that. We should definitely see some animals there.
I’ve been amazed at the internet coverage during our trip. Most of our rooms had internet access except while we were in Dawson City. The internet connection here in Fairbanks is slower than desired and in comparison to the connections we’ve had previously. Even the hotel in Whitehorse Falls had better a better internet connection. I think I’d rather have a decent internet connection than frozen cheesecake.
One thing that has surprised me on a personal level is that I’ve watched less television on this trip and finally got out of the habit of calling the office to check to see how WDNG was running. I got called on the carpet by my General Manager so, I backed off there. Thank you Troy. I needed that. Yes, it is a challenge to get out of business mode when you’ve not taken a decent vacation in almost 5 years. Sure, we’ve done Vegas and Nashville but, I was attending the NAB convention in Las Vegas and the radio show in Nashville. We did do a short trip a couple weeks before our big adventure to a Neil Diamond concert, which was AWESOME all by itself. Yeah, I’m a Diamondhead. Missed his 2012 concert because we were in Ireland at the time. He was worth missing then.
I am very grateful that our time in the “Frozen Tundra” (so to speak) is ending on a high note. It’s a great way to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. It’s not until September but nothing wrong with beginning the celebration early. I doubt I’d want to be here in Alaska during September. It would really be cold then.
Well, until next time, God Bless and Happy Travels
Charlene
