First Day of Many for Change

Today, I’ve signed up for a life changing venture. I am one of those folks that is carrying too much weight on my five foot frame. I’m not claiming to be small, medium or large boned. All I know is that I am carrying so much extra weight to the point where I am not function to my very fullest.  I become out of breath easily, after a full night of sleep – I don’t feel as if I’ve actually rested no matter how sound I sleep and I just don’t feel up to doing much after a day of work other than climb in bed or curl up on the couch and watch television. Now is the time for me to make that change. I am doing the Medi Weight Loss System through a physician in Anniston, Alabama where I work. I work in radio and being in management there, I experience my share of stress. I also care

Have I done the right thing??

Today I signed up with Weight Watchers online.  I’m a lifetime member of WW but haven’t followed the plan in years.  It’s changed so much I lost my initial 30 lbs. I’ve gained and lost those 30 lbs. several times over and them some. I’ve been experiencing some health issues such as arthritis in my knees and hands as well as some bursitis and tendonitis in my shoulder that’s recently become quite painful. I need to make a change. A positive change because I am so tired of living life the way it is right now. I stay tired most of the time and with a job that’s high on stress while trying to care for my aging father, life isn’t always easy. Did I mention that I spend more time with my father than I do my husband these days?? My husband is in Birmingham, AL and my work and father is in Anniston, AL, a hours drive from

Wednesday Thoughts

Being the owner/operator/general manager of a radio station has its perks.  I do get to come and go as I please but I don’t always do that. I don’t want my staff to think I’m a slouch or anything like that.  I do arrive early in the morning to gather my thoughts  and get some things done before the day gets too crazy with people running up and down halls, in and out of my office for what ever is on their mind and about a bazillion questions running rampant on about as many topics. Okay, there’s no such thing as a bazillion but  there is a mega million and trillion. Those numbers work for lots of questions with as many answers.  I may not know all of the answers but at least I admit that i don’t know them. I’m learning like a lot of my staff are. We are in it together and we all kind of like

Weekend Observbations

Welcome to my weekend. After an absolutely crazy week at the studios of WDNG in Anniston, AL, I am  so glad to be at home with Mr. Gossett and my cats, Otis and Matilda.  As much as I enjoy what I do during the work week, I enjoy spending time at home even more. It gives me the opportunity to relax, think and review the previous week in order to attempt to not repeat any hiccups that may have happened the previous week.  We did have quite a bit of excitement this past week. Todd Starnes of Fox Radio News and Commentary was in the Anniston/Oxford area and we did our best to have him in studio with morning show host, Michael Dean Smith and his side kick, Andrew McLain. That didn’t go as we had planned. The weather wasn’t in our favor and we had to do the interview via telephone. There was a lot of rain that slowed

Long time No blog entry

It’s been a while since I last posted an entry here and I have to admit that I’ve been a crazy busy lady. For the last year and a half or more, I’ve been thrust into a position that I never expected to be in. I am the owner / operator of a small town AM radio station. Okay, the small town is the place I grew up and the radio station is the one I listened to as a little girl which makes the whole situation very unique – to say the least. I have always loved the radio business. I worked at my hometown radio station in my 20’s but didn’t pursue it for whatever reason I had back then. Now that I’m older, I’m very pleased to be back at the station I have loved for all of my life. I have found that once you become part of this crazy industry, it pretty much becomes part

Obama’s America 2016

Just returned from seeing the movie, “2016 Obama’s America” and found it to be very enlightening. Being a conservative on most topics in the political arena, I wanted to see what another conservative or someone on the “right” would say about our current President. Dinesh D’Souza presents a very interesting prospective on President Obama which looks in to his roots up to his current presidency. I learned more than what I’ve heard in the main stream media as well as on conservative talk radio and on the Fox News Channel. For a documentary, it flowed well and was easy to follow. The only down side for me was the fact that so much information was packed into and hour and a half movie that I’d have to see it again to absorb it all. Otherwise, it was a good movie. For my conservative friends, it’s a must see. For my liberal friends, I’d avoid it to keep from being offended.

Movie “Hereafter (2010)”

Would you believe the best part of this whole movie was the free popcorn I got as a reward from the use of my Regal Crown Card???  The truth is, that popcorn was really really good. A whole lot better than the 2 hour and 6 minute movie I went to see. I realize there are people are searching for what happens in the “afterlife” but they are overlooking the obvious as if they were blind. The only way to happiness is through a relationship with Jesus Christ and spending eternity with him.  Doing psychic readings won’t get it. Nor will anything like it fill that void or answer the questions people are searching for. I suppose those in search of answers are blinded by the evils in this world. In my personal opinion, it’s sad. The attendance was okay with about 30-something people in attendance for a 1:00 matinee. I wouldn’t want to expose children to this kind of

Movie “REDS”

I knew I wanted to see this movie when I found out that Morgan Freeman and Bruce Willis were in it. I wasn’t so sure about John Malcovitch but after seeing him in Secretariat, I had a feeling I’d like him in Reds.  This was a great movie with profanity at a bare minimum. There was a little here and there but it wasn’t through out the whole movie. I liked that part and it was one of those movies with action, drama, comedy and yes, some romance. The crowd was mixed with kids/teens/adults and was appropriate for most all ages except for young children. I just don’t think they’d understand. I’d definitely recommend anyone to see this movie and I give it a 4 out of 5 paws.

Movie “Secretariat”

This is one movie that I loved and would see over and over again. It was inspirational and full of determination in the midst of a lot of risk taking actions. It was one of the few movies with absolutely no profanity and I really liked that.  Being a teenager when Secretariat ran the triple crown, I was curious as to how the back story played out and this movie gave me what I was looking for. I found myself wanting to jump up and begin cheering the horse and his jockey on like I was actually at the horse track. I was inspired to keep on keeping on no matter what I’m being told in the negative. Most of the audience were older adults, most likely retirees as well as those like me who were familiar with the horse. No kids in attendance so no child to adult ration. On a scale of 5 paws, I give it a

Movie “The Social Network”

This is one of those movies that I’m not sure how to react to. It was an interesting 2 hour movie that was good at keeping my attention and it was well acted but it struck me as really different. It’s not a bad different just “different.” I suppose it was something I least expected. I learned a lot about covering ones back side and how selfish and self consumed people be with regards to success. It reminded me that we live in a dog eat dog world and those who hesitate get eaten. It definitely wasn’t the kind of movie I’d want to take young children to. Maybe teens or pre-teens. More adults attended the showing I was at but I do like attending afternoon matinees. I give the movie a 3 out of 5 paws.
